Interested in broadening your marketability in a variety of bioscience career paths and enhancing your professional credentials? The Advanced Biomedical Studies Concentration, offered at PCOM Georgia, is designed to provide you with exposure to relevant, cutting-edge topical areas in biomedical sciences including genetics, stem cell research, pharmacology and nutritional biochemistry.

REQUEST PROGRAM INFORMATION

As part of the program, students will complete laboratory practicum coursework designed to validate competency in laboratory techniques. Students will also demonstrate independent research skills through the required completion of a final capstone project.

The Advanced Biomedical Studies Concentration is designed to be completed in two years, but the program offers scheduling flexibility to meet the academic and professional objectives of its students. Before entering the concentration, students must successfully complete the foundation year and obtain approval of the program directors.

Students who have earned the MS in Biomedical Sciences with a concentration in advanced biomedical studies have gone on to positions in:

  • Laboratory research
  • Industry
  • Teaching
  • Administration
  • Consulting
  • Investigator (forensic, accident scene, social services)
  • Healthcare policy
  • Professional schools (medical, dental, law, pharmacy, nursing, physician assistant and allied health programs)

Upon completion of the concentration, the student will be able to:

  • demonstrate knowledge of specific topical coursework information as well as understanding of basic research methodology including scientific method, data analysis, and empirical inquiry.
  • demonstrate advanced proficiency in information skills applied in the search and analysis of the literature; development of research design; approaches to quantitation of results and the written and oral presentation of research and other types of topical information.
  • apply their knowledge and skills in industry, teaching or further graduate study.
  • demonstrate effective use of computer technology in the biomedical sciences.

After completing foundation year coursework, students may progress to the second-year degree concentration.
