Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences
Application Requirements

The Master of Science (MS) in Biomedical Sciences program, offered at PCOM, PCOM Georgia and PCOM South Georgia provides an opportunity for students with baccalaureate degrees to begin a biomedical sciences graduate program as preparation for science careers or as additional preparation for professional study:

The MS in Biomedical Sciences program represents a broad content base in the basic biomedical sciences with a strong emphasis on human medicine and clinical applications of the material. Foundation courses provide a unique interdisciplinary background in biomedical sciences that may be applied in business, management or teaching careers, or as preparation for professional school. A certificate of graduate study is awarded for successful completion of all foundation (first year) courses and laboratory objectives. The degree tracks build upon the foundation courses and can be completed in one of several concentrations. Students who meet academic success criteria and complete foundational coursework have the option to complete an accelerated, one-year master's program.

Admissions prefers letters from the following sources:

  • A pre-health or academic advisor/committee (undergraduate, post-baccalaureate or graduate programs)
  • Undergraduate, graduate or post-baccalaureate faculty (preferably those who delivered a candidate’s completed science coursework), who can attest to academic performance and aptitude.

Candidates who may not have the ability to submit a letter from any of the above sources should select letter writers who know them in a professional capacity and can comment on the applicant's character, work ethic, academic history, scientific acumen, empathy, compassion, resilience, emotional intelligence and commitment to graduate education.

Letters of recommendation can be sent through the PCOM application portal or directly to PCOM Admissions in PDF format at recommend@pcom.edu. Recommenders can view our For Recommenders page for guidance.

Should you be charged, convicted of, or plead guilty or no contest to a misdemeanor or felony crime after the date of your original application submission, you are required to notify the Dean of your program in writing within 10 business days of the occurrence. This communication should be sent by certified mail to the Dean at the address on the acceptance letter.

Students are not obligated to complete the second year or the degree unless they wish to do so. The process and requirements for declaring a concentration are presented to all students in the spring term and described in the program's student handbook.

The accelerated master's program allows students who meet academic success criteria to complete their MS in Biomedical Sciences degree in one year. The process and requirements for declaring a desire to participate in the one-year accelerated master's program concentration are presented to all students in the spring term and described in the program's student handbook.
