An alumnus of Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Jay S. Feldstein, DO '81,
has served as the institution's eighth president and chief executive officer since
July 1, 2014.
During Dr. Feldstein's tenure, major institutional strategic initiatives set forth
in PCOM 2020: A Strategic Vision have been achieved. These outcomes are highlighted in the PCOM 2020: Report on Our Accomplishments. Under his leadership, the College is now executing the next strategic plan—PCOM 2025—to advance PCOM's position of excellence.
Commitment to Racial and Cultural Diversity
Dr. Feldstein was awarded the American Osteopathic Association's (AOA) inaugural Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Unification Award for promoting and advancing diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives in the osteopathic
community.
In June 2020, the President's Council on Equity, Inclusion and Justice was appointed by President Feldstein to advance PCOM's commitment to justice, equity,
diversity and inclusion. The Council, chaired by the Chief Diversity and Community
Relations Officer, is charged to identify strategic priorities and initiatives that
align with the new PCOM 2025 Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Plan.
The College was recognized with the Inspiring Programs in STEM Award for its outreach programs that promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics
to underrepresented groups in Pennsylvania and Georgia.
The Office of Diversity and Community Relations partnered with Anne Koch, DMD, to
host a lecture series dedicated to transgender medicine topics.
Growth in Research
In fiscal year 2023-24, PCOM investigators received over $8 million in external funding,
with nine new grants and contracts awarded.
Each year, PCOM celebrates scientific discovery through Research Day at all three
locations. In 2023, Research Day showcased 253 posters.
PCOM formed a strategic partnership with Organic Remedies in 2020 to study medicinal cannabis, focusing on its therapeutic potential for opioid management and the treatment of
chronic pain, impact on behavioral health and quality of life, and trends in usage.
In 2019, PCOM psychology investigators were awarded a $5.5 million contract from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) to study the effectiveness
of psychosocial treatments for patients receiving treatment for opioid use disorder.
Success and Increased Philanthropic Support for the College
PCOM attained more than $15.2 million in commitments—the largest total raised for
the fourth year in a row—and 80% of the amount contributed was allocated for strategic initiatives.
United & Ignited, with a $65 million fundraising goal, focuses on accelerating academic excellence,
expanding clinical opportunities and enhancing student experiences.
Pioneering Entrepreneurship
The PCOM Primary Care Innovation Fund focuses on investing in healthcare-related products and services related to primary
care. Structured as a traditional venture capital fund to ultimately help grow the
endowment of PCOM, the $5 million fund is focused on making investments in the range
of $250,000 to $500,000.
Construction of our newest location, PCOM South Georgia, was completed in summer 2019. An inaugural class of 59 DO students began their studies
in August. The 75,000 square-foot facility represents an investment of $30 million to meet the long-term healthcare needs of
the region.
Working to meet the demand of students interested in pursuing medical school or other
professional studies, PCOM expanded its accelerated one-year Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences to its PCOM and PCOM Georgia campuses in 2023. The program initially launched at
PCOM South Georgia.
Blending positive psychological theory, research and applied approaches, PCOM's Master of Applied Positive Psychology program—launched in 2022—prepares students to pursue doctoral studies in psychology or work
in the field as wellness coaches. As part of the program, students are engaged in
clinical work in the PCOM Healthcare Centers and facilitate A Happier You.
Launched in 2022, the College's Master of Science in Medical Laboratory Science programs prepare students to become highly-qualified laboratory scientists. In 2024,
the program at PCOM Georgia was recognized as a Serious Applicant for Initial Accreditation
by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences.
American Osteopathic Association's Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation
(COCA) voted to grant PCOM status “Accreditation with Exceptional Outcome,” following comprehensive self-study report and visits by a COCA accreditation team
to all PCOM campuses in September 2019.
New programs in public health management and administration (MS, certificate offerings)
were initiated.
For DO alumni, an executive MBA in healthcare, offered through a partnership with St. Joseph's University, was made
available.
The Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) in school psychology program was granted initial accreditation by the American Psychological Association (APA).

of the day with various people from PCOM, PCOM Georgia and PCOM South Georgia.
