PCOM Campuses Match National 99% Postgrad Placement Rate for DOs
May 20, 2025
Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine’s three locations mirrored the national residency placement rate for osteopathic medical students in
2025, with 99% of students obtaining postgraduate opportunities, including residency programs and research fellowships.
PCOM, PCOM Georgia and PCOM South Georgia all obtained 99% placement rates for Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine students, and each location continued to demonstrate PCOM’s longstanding commitment
to primary care. Nearly half of PCOM students placed into primary care specialties
(family medicine, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, and pediatrics), while
55% of PCOM Georgia graduates and 61% of PCOM South Georgia graduates did.
Nationally, the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) reported
that a record-high 8,695 graduating osteopathic medical students accepted residency positions for 2025, representing a 99% placement rate.
For PCOM, residency placements range from orthopedic surgery and urology at the Mayo Clinic
to neurology and radiation oncology at University of Maryland Medical Center.
PCOM Georgia graduates are heading to institutions such as Emory for diagnostic radiology and
Johns Hopkins for physical medicine and rehabilitation. Six graduates are joining
Wellstar Health System for emergency medicine.
At PCOM South Georgia, placements include Colquitt Regional Medical Center for psychiatry, Northeast Georgia
Health System for internal medicine (where two students will train), and University
Medical Center of the University of Alabama for pediatrics.
Kathryn Doherty, DO ’25, is excited to return to her hometown for residency, training in urology at Albany
Medical College in New York.
“Urologic diagnoses are often shrouded in stigma, and I find it gratifying to help
patients navigate all aspects of their conditions—physically and mentally,” she said.
Randall Morris Sheffield, DO ’25, is also from Albany, but it’s the city in Georgia. The PCOM South Georgia graduate
will train in family medicine at Lakeland Regional Hospital in Lakeland, Florida.
“When I opened that envelope, I felt very humbled, grateful, and of course, excited,”
he said of the letter he opened to reveal his placement during national Match Day.
