Department of Pharmacy Practice
PCOM School of Pharmacy
The mission of the Department of Pharmacy Practice is to provide clinical and social
administrative education that advances knowledge and skills through innovative and
evidence-based approaches, as well as advance research and scholarship, deliver quality
patient-centered care and provide service to the PCOM School of Pharmacy, the College
and local community.
Teaching Goals
- Collect and analyze data on active learning and critical thinking techniques and incorporate
this data into didactic and experiential teaching.
- Implement and document innovative teaching strategies that promote the scholarship
of teaching.
- Provide varied learning opportunities through the Medical Cannabis and Nuclear Pharmacy
elective concentrations.
- Continually improve the quality of preceptor training events and continuing education
seminars.
- Expand the number, diversity—and enhance the quality of—experiential education sites.
- Develop an improved plan for conducting existing on-site experiential education site
visits.
- Implement and monitor faculty development plans to be consistent with PCOM’s Strategic Plan.
- Develop new post-graduate training opportunities for our students in collaboration
with key hospital and industry partners.
Scholarship Goals
- Publish in reputable and appropriate journals.
- Present abstracts and research presentations at local, state and national and/or international
scientific and professional meetings.
- Expand interdisciplinary collaboration with researchers in other departments, colleges
and universities.
- Pursue grants through federal agencies, foundations, corporations and industry.
- Engage and grow student participation in scholarly activities.
Pharmacy Practice and Service Goals
- Support and promote student and faculty engagement and leadership in regional, national
and/or international professional organizations.
- Develop and maintain pharmacy practice opportunities that serve the local, state and
global communities by engaging faculty and students in patient-centered care activities.
- Increase involvement in providing primary health care services to the underserved
communities throughout Georgia.
- Create and promote community partnerships between the institution and community.
