SONIA AMIN THOMAS, PHARMD, BCOP (FORMERLY SONIA PATEL)
Vice Chair of Pharmacy Practice
Associate Professor, Pharmacy Practice
Dr. Sonia Amin Thomas, born and raised in the Midwest (Bloomington, Illinois), now
considers herself a true Georgian native after moving to Alpharetta in middle school.
She received her PharmD from South University in Savannah in 2010 after completing
her undergraduate course work at the University of Georgia in Athens. She then went
on to complete her PGY1 residency in Columbus, GA, and PGY2 oncology residency in
Detroit, MI, before she became a board certified oncology pharmacist (BCOP). Thomas
began her career in academia at PCOM School of Pharmacy in 2012 and her role as a
clinical oncology specialist at NGOC at Wellstar North Fulton Hospital.
It was during the pandemic that Thomas' role expanded, and she discovered how to incorporate
her personal lifelong health/fitness/nutrition passion into becoming an integrative
nutrition health coach. She obtained certifications in pharmacogenomics, functional
medicine and integrative oncology, and began pursuing personalized medicine.
Dr. Thomas recently has taken on a leadership role as vice chair and obtained full
professorship. She has had multiple publications and local, national and international
presentations within the oncology field and preventive medicine field. Current research
and publications are focused on oncology, nutrition and integrative medicine.
