Pre-Matriculation Program (PreMP) at PCOM School of Pharmacy
Prepare for Success in the PharmD Program

The Pre-Matriculation Program (PreMP) is a structured, four-week preparatory experience designed to support incoming students as they transition into the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program at PCOM School of Pharmacy. The program introduces students to essential academic content, skill-building strategies, and institutional resources that contribute to success.

Program Objectives

PreMP is intended to:

  • Strengthen foundational knowledge in key scientific and quantitative disciplines
  • Enhance time management, study techniques, and other academic skills
  • Familiarize students with medical and pharmaceutical terminology
  • Introduce students to the structure and expectations of the PharmD program
  • Connect students to faculty, peers, and support services

The following topics will be addressed during the program:

  • Study Skills and Time Management: Approaches to effective learning and organization in a professional program
  • Introductory Chemistry: Concepts to support understanding of molecular-level drug action
  • Medical Terminology: Vocabulary relevant to healthcare and pharmaceutical sciences
  • Foundational Mathematics: Quantitative principles used in pharmaceutical calculations
  • Pharmaceutical Calculations in Practice: Hands-on application through a compounding activity

Additional activities include a guided tour of the cadaver lab and an overview of the program. Several sessions will include student learning assessments to measure subject comprehension.

Participation is strongly encouraged for all newly admitted PharmD students. Students repeating the first year are also eligible and encouraged to attend. Beginning in Summer 2026, the program will be required for all students repeating their first year of the PharmD program. Admitted students will receive additional details regarding enrollment through official communication from the Office of Student Affairs.

The PreMP consists of weekly, two-hour hybrid sessions offered in-person and remote on Zoom. Sessions will be held on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. until noon. Each session is structured as follows:

10-10:50 a.m.: Instruction using a problem-based approach
11-11:30 a.m.: Student learning assessment
11:30-12 p.m.: Review and discussion of assessment outcomes with faculty

Student learning will be evaluated through assessments. A pre-program and post-program survey will also be administered to secure participant feedback. These evaluations will help inform the continued development and effectiveness of the program.
