PCOM School of Pharmacy has several drug research opportunities for Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) students. Research opportunities exist with the faculty in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Department of Pharmacy Practice.
Currently, PCOM School of Pharmacy faculty are involved in research including, but not limited to, the following areas: drug development for the treatment of viral complications including Covid 19, anticancer drugs, novel drug delivery systems, identification of cancer biomarkers, development of drugs for arthritis, health outcomes research, and scholarship of teaching and learning.
Securing residencies in highly ranked pharmacy schools is becoming more and more competitive. PCOM School of Pharmacy faculty note that students with research experience, abstract presentations and manuscript publications have better outcomes. The research experience provides a significant advantage to students who are looking for better pharmacy residency or fellowship opportunities.
Using work-study options will help students gain hands-on experience in the laboratory. PCOM School of Pharmacy supports students in presenting their work at national conferences, midyear meetings and at PCOM Research Days, ensuring a successful professional and academic career.
The students who desire to learn the research techniques or methodologies can either apply for a work-study research assistant position through the Office of Financial Aid or contact individual faculty for volunteer research assistant positions.
