PCOM South Georgia Unveils Outdoor Fitness Trail To Promote Wellness and Connection
September 23, 2025
On Thursday, September 18, students, staff, faculty and alumni from PCOM South Georgia joined together to celebrate the official opening of its on-campus Fitness Trail.
The trail, which was made possible by the generosity of faculty and staff donors,
was constructed just outside the Colquitt Connector, providing campus goers with a peaceful and accessible space to recharge in nature
between classes and meetings.
“It is my great hope that this fitness trail will become a space for our students,
staff and faculty to stay physically and mentally well and healthy as they travel
this journey,” said Robert Lloyd, DO ‘91, interim dean at PCOM South Georgia, during his opening remarks.
Students on campus expressed gratitude and excitement for the outdoor walking space,
recognizing the connection between wellness and academic success.
“I know I, myself, have walked the trail with an iPad or taken a break between classes
with my friends,” said Lily Dwyer (DO ‘28), who spoke on behalf of the student body
at the ceremony. “This trail is not just a physical addition to our campus, but a
reflection of the shared commitment to health, wellness, and our South Georgia community.”
Following the unveiling ceremony was a “Welcome Back” party hosted by PCOM's Office of Institutional Advancement to celebrate the start of the school term with food trucks and fun for students and
faculty to enjoy.
“We are deeply grateful to our generous donors for making this outdoor fitness trail
a reality,” said Deidre Martin, EdD, gifts officer at PCOM South Georgia. “This outdoor space will provide students and
faculty with more opportunities to prioritize wellness, fitness, and balance in their
daily lives.”
PCOM South Georgia looks forward to building upon the trail with enhancements such
as benches, picnic tables, and outdoor fitness equipment, ensuring that it remains
a cornerstone of the campus environment for years to come.
