In January 2024, Deidre Martin, EdD, became the first gifts officer for PCOM South Georgia.

A South Georgia native, Dr. Martin grew up on her family farm near Omega and graduated from Colquitt County High School. Her career includes 35 years in higher education with the past 20 years of that focused on fundraising and alumni relations. Before joining PCOM South Georgia, Martin spent nine years as the chief advancement officer at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) in Tifton.

One of her first major projects was to raise donations for PCOM South Georgia's celebration dinner as part of PCOM's 125th anniversary.

“Thanks to the generosity of our community, we were so pleased to raise $250,000 at ‘A Night to Ignite Celebration’ in October,” Dr. Martin said. “The funds raised enabled two scholarship endowments for Southwest Georgia students to attend PCOM South Georgia. With more than 200 people attending the event, it was also a wonderful evening to celebrate our Moultrie campus.”

“Making a medical school education possible for our students is why I do what I do. It is a joy to tell the PCOM South Georgia story and ask our region to invest in our efforts.”

Since joining PCOM, Dr. Martin has welcomed government officials, community leaders and business executives to campus.

“The South Georgia campus is beautiful, and I thoroughly enjoy showing it off to visitors,” she said. “It never fails to impress those who come through our doors. However, the very best thing about our campus is our people. The South Georgia faculty, staff and students are truly a family who care about each other. It is a wonderful place!”

“Now is a really exciting time to be part of PCOM South Georgia,” Dr. Martin continued. “With our growth in student enrollment and programs, I am confident our campus has a very bright future as we advocate for rural healthcare. I am energized to continue sharing the PCOM story in our region and seeking resources to support that future. I enjoy being part of the Institutional Advancement team to make a difference in advancing the PCOM mission.”

She focuses on helping equip the next generation of physicians.

“Making a medical school education possible for our students is why I do what I do,” Dr. Martin explained. “It is a joy to tell the PCOM South Georgia story and ask our region to invest in our efforts. Growing up in South Georgia, I know firsthand that our work is vital to strengthening healthcare for our rural areas.”

Her background also includes mentoring other fundraisers, and in February 2025, she received the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District III's Mentor of the Year Award during the organization's conference in Orlando, Florida.

“Being a mentor has been one of the greatest joys of my professional career,” Dr. Martin said. “I was fortunate to work with some amazing leaders over the years and took those lessons I learned to heart when I had the opportunity to be a mentor. I am very honored to be recognized in this special way by CASE.”
