When a physician Emily Reagin (DO ’27) had worked with during a family medicine rotation at Colquitt Regional Medical Center in Moultrie, Georgia, asked her to attend a medical staff meeting to share student feedback, she didn’t realize it would lead to a surprise.

“When I got there, he said we’d do the feedback after the meeting, so I just sat and listened,” Reagin said. “Then they started handing out awards, and they announced the Medical Student of the Year Award. I suddenly realized I was the only medical student in the room. It was so nice and such a shock.”

The Colquitt County Medical Society named Reagin its Medical Student of the Year in recognition of her clinical ability, compassion, and professionalism during clinical rotations. At Colquitt Regional Medical Center, she completed both inpatient and outpatient rotations, earning high praise from physicians, staff, and patients for her attentiveness and kindness.

Reagin, a third-year student in the osteopathic medicine program at PCOM South Georgia, found each of her rotations at Colquitt Regional Medical Center to be rewarding, with supportive physicians and constant learning opportunities, but during her OB/GYN rotation, something truly clicked.

“This rotation was pivotal for me,” she said. “I loved the continuity of care in OB/GYN and the variety of patients—from menopausal care to routine OB visits. Being part of so many stages of a woman’s life felt really meaningful. I experienced both wonderful and difficult moments, and being there for all of it showed me that I want to support women throughout their lives.”

Reagin now plans to apply for an OB/GYN residency and hopes to practice in her native South Georgia. Motivated by the desire to serve her home community, she was drawn to PCOM South Georgia, where the welcoming, supportive environment and the opportunity to stay close to family made the Moultrie-based campus feel like home from the start. The recognition from the Colquitt County Medical Society affirms that she is on the right path.

“I’m really grateful to have received the award,” she said, “and it’s also motivated me to work even harder for my future patients.”
