Georgia native Kailyn Clemons (DPT '28) is taking on two meaningful new roles: mother and future physical therapist. As a second-year student in PCOM Georgia’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program, she’ll receive her white coat next week, just weeks after welcoming her first child.

“Having my newborn baby has made this journey even more special because I'm not just working toward a career for myself anymore, but also building a future for my family,” she said. “There are definitely challenging days, but they remind me of what matters most and why I'm working so hard.”

Clemons’ desire to become a physical therapist stems from the opportunity to be present for people as they work toward recovery, not only helping them regain strength and movement, but encouraging them to return to the lives they want to live.

“One of the biggest things that drew me to physical therapy is that you get to be part of someone’s journey. You get to spend time with them, build a connection, and actually see their progress as they work toward their goals and ultimately get back to the life they want to live,” she said.

She chose to attend PCOM Georgia because of its sense of community and the opportunity to learn alongside people with different backgrounds and experiences.

“I think that diversity is so important in health care because every patient is unique, and understanding different perspectives helps us become more compassionate and well-rounded providers. I knew I wanted to be part of a program that would challenge me to grow both personally and professionally while preparing me to provide meaningful, patient-centered care.”

For Clemons, the white coat is a culmination of juggling classes, exams and late-night study sessions all while raising her son.

“It’s not just about getting through school; it's about working toward a career where I can genuinely make a difference in people's lives. Being able to reach this milestone, especially with my family and my baby as my motivation, makes it that much more important. I know I still have a lot to learn, but I'm proud to be here and excited for what’s ahead.”
