Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine is committed to reducing our impact on the environment. We promote environmental awareness through our continuous expansion of a recycling program that includes plastic, aluminum and printer cartridge recycling in addition to paper product recycling.
PCOM
Since 2006, the Department of Plant Operations has been evaluating college facilities
and energy usage. Savings initiatives implemented to date include using an auxiliary
generator and bidding load reduction capabilities in real time on the open market
during peak demand energy times and embracing alternative and blended fuels. These
measures have resulted in significant cost savings for the College while protecting
the environment.
PCOM Georgia
In June, 2018, PCOM Georgia retrofitted or replaced all interior light fixtures and
exterior wall mounted light fixtures to LED. This will result in significant energy
savings over the lifespan of the light fixture. LEDs produce less heat than fluorescent
fixtures as they operate and therefore introduce less heat into the environment.
