The Women's Healthcare of Georgia Endowed Scholarship was established in 2023 by David Quang, DO, and Tan-Loc Nguyen, MD, in memory of Daniel Ruben Martinez, OMS-III. The student must be enrolled in the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) program at PCOM Georgia and be in good academic standing; and must be in their fourth year and have an interest in women's health; and must have demonstrated financial need for tuition support as defined by the Office of Financial Aid.

The Gene and Roz Chaiken Endowed Scholarship was established in 2021. The Scholarship is awarded to:

A. An incoming student who is a graduate of The Pennsylvania State University (PSU) matriculating into any of PCOM's degree-granting programs and who has demonstrated financial need as defined by the Office of Financial Aid.

B. The Scholarship award will be renewable for the selected student until all degree requirements have been completed and the student graduates from the program. However, the student must remain in good academic standing, as determined by PCOM.

The Barbagiovanni Family Endowed Scholarship was established in 2023 by John Barbagiovanni, DO '95. The scholarship will partially relieve the tuition burden for eligible students at PCOM. Funds are awarded to qualified 3rd and 4th year PCOM students that would like to pursue a career in Primary Care (Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Pediatrics, and/or OB/GYN). The student must be enrolled in the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine program and be in good academic standing, and the student must have demonstrated financial need for tuition support as defined by the Office of Financial Aid.

Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN)'s primary care scholarship program for students from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM). Up to four selected third-year PCOM students in one of the eligible programs will receive the scholarship.

• Recipients will receive tuition for years three and four of medical school.
• Recipients will receive book fees.
• This is in exchange for a commitment for two years of full-time employment with Lehigh Valley Physician Group (LVPG) after successful completion of medical school and residency/fellowship program.

The LVHN Selection Committee will complete a holistic review of applicants based on:

1. Academic achievement, including professionalism
2. Commitment to community health
3. Connections to the greater Lehigh Valley region

The David Woodring Noland, LCDR, NC, USN, Endowed Scholarship was established in 2019 by David Cute, DO '96, in memory of David Woodring Noland. Funds are used to provide financial assistance to students with demonstrated financial need in any program on any PCOM campus with a first preference for students who have served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces and a second preference given to students who have served on reserve duty.

The Hong Ye, DO '02, Endowed Scholarship was established in 2022. The scholarship is used to partially relieve the tuition burden for eligible students at PCOM. The OIS Endowed Student Emergency Fund was established in 2022 by the Osteopathic Institute of the South (OIS). Funds generated annually will help students who have had their education, training and lives impacted unforeseen incidents. Funding will be distributed for the most basic needs including food and nutritional essentials, housing or health care. Funds may also support course materials, technology and emergency travel expenses. The student must be enrolled at PCOM Georgia or PCOM South Georgia; and be enrolled at the time of the distribution.

The Katherine L. Tarrant Endowed Scholarship was established in 2022. The scholarship is awarded to one or more students enrolled in the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree program who are in good academic standing with demonstrated financial need. Applicants for the scholarship should complete a 500-word essay describing why they want to become an osteopathic physician.

The Philip L. Ehrig, DO '67, Memorial Endowed Student Resource Fund was established in 2018 by Philip L. Ehrig, DO '87, in memory of his father. The Scott Pfeffer, DO '86, Endowed Student Resource Fund was established in 2020 in honor of Dr. Pfeffer. The funds are used to provide financial assistance for educational expenses to a fourth year DO student enrolled at PCOM's Philadelphia location who has completed a cardiology rotation or who pursues activities pertaining to training in cardiology, including but not limited to: the purchase of textbooks, lab materials, research poster, exam preparation courses, etc.

The Clyde and Sandra Strickland Endowed Doctoral Scholarship Fund was established in 2021 by Clyde and Sandra Strickland to provide financial assistance to students enrolled in one of the three doctoral programs at PCOM Georgia: Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO); Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD); and Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT). The recipients must hold a diploma from a Gwinnett County Public High School and have demonstrated financial need.

Provided that the recipients remain in good academic standing, the scholarship may be renewed for up to four years.

The William M. King, DO '62, Endowed Minority Scholarship was established in 2015 by the William M. King Charitable Foundation.

The scholarship is awarded to a student who meets the following criteria: African-American student who is a resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; enrolled in the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine program at the Philadelphia campus in good academic standing; and demonstrated financial need as determined by the PCOM Scholarship Profile. The scholarship is awarded to one (1) student recipient for each of his/her four years at PCOM; provided, however, that the student remains in good academic standing in each of those years.

The William M. King, DO '62, Physicians of Tomorrow Endowed Scholarship was established in 2016 by the William M. King Charitable Foundation.

The scholarship is awarded to one student on an annual basis for his/her four years at PCOM based on the following criteria: Is African-American; enrolled in the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine program at the Philadelphia campus of PCOM; remains in good academic standing each year he/she receives the scholarship; and demonstrates financial need.

The Carol Fox Endowed Scholarship was created by the alumni and friends of Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine to honor Carol Fox for her commitment to the Admissions and Student Affairs programs of the College.

The scholarship is awarded upon matriculation to accepted DO students, one from each of the PCOM sites, upon recommendation from the Admissions Team and the Admissions Committees with final approval by the Faculty Committee on Honors and Awards. The following qualities are to be considered in the selection of these individuals: strong academic credentials, conversance with the osteopathic philosophy, humanism, leadership potential, prior military service, scholar athlete.

Recommendations to the Chief Admissions Officer should be made based on observations at the admissions interview, letters of recommendation from premed advisors and osteopathic physicians as well as any other contacts with the students.

The Thomas R. and William C. LeMasters Family Endowed Scholarship was established in 2018 by brothers, Thomas R. LeMasters, DO ’78, and William C. LeMasters, DO ’81.

The scholarship provides financial assistance to a second-, third- or fourth-year student enrolled in the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine program who exhibit academic excellence and hails from Carbon, Schuylkill and/or Northumberland counties in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

The Dr. Ethel Allen Endowed Memorial Scholarship is awarded to two African-American female first year students enrolled in the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree program. The Louis F. Amalfitano, DO, Family Endowed Legacy Scholarship was established in 2019.

Funds generated annually are used to provide financial support to a student with demonstrated financial need who is a member of a PCOM Legacy Family, defined as having two (2) or more relatives who graduated from any of PCOM's programs.

The Sara Somers Rupert, RN, Class of 1933 Endowed Physician Assistant Scholarship was established in 1998 by Sara Somers Rupert, RN '33, with a donation to the PCOM Mission Capital Campaign.

Candidate(s) must be a junior student(s) in the Physician Assistant program and must demonstrate the humanistic, caring and compassionate qualities of a future physician assistant. Financial need, scholarly work and involvement in student activities will be considered. Final selection is made in the spring and based upon the recommendation of the Physician Assistant Department faculty.

The Law Enforcement Forensic Medicine Scholarship is a one time award of $2,000 awarded to MS in Forensic Medicine students who are sworn in as an officer in a police department.

The PCOM Georgia Student Award Fund was established in 2014 by donations to the Champions of Healthcare Event held on the Georgia Campus. The award of $1,000 is presented to a student who is enrolled in any program of study at the PCOM Georgia campus who demonstrates financial assistance determined through the PCOM application process.

The JoAnne Pieringer, PhD, Endowed Scholarship was established in 1995 to honor Dr. Pieringer, an outstanding PCOM educator, researcher and community advocate.

The scholarship is awarded to an eligible student from any of the College's degree programs, in any year of study who is interested in biomedical sciences research and who exemplifies Dr. Pieringer’s traits: intellectual curiosity and concern for others within and beyond the PCOM community. Women are given priority for this scholarship.

The Pieringer Supplementary Application opens on February 15 and is due on April 1.

The Polyprobe Endowed Scholarship was established in 1998 during the PCOM Mission Capital Campaign by Polyprobe, Inc. to foster advanced study in molecular medicine.

Candidates must submit a 1,000 word scientific paper on the following question:

What is your vision of the impact that molecular medicine will have on your future medical practice?

They also need to include past and current research experience and submit a separate bibliographical sketch detailing education and work experiences. A letter of recommendation is optional.

This scholarship is available to all students in good academic standing attending the Philadelphia campus. Final selection will be based upon recommendations from the Polyprobe Scholarship committee.

The Polyprobe Supplementary Application opens on February 15 and is due on April 1.

The Rugby Endowed Scholarship was established in 1996 by active members of the 1997 PCOM Rugby Club.

The scholarship is awarded to one female and one male student each year to lessen the financial debt of student athletes. The recipients must be in good academic standing in any PCOM program, have demonstrated financial need, and must be an active participant in athletics on the Philadelphia campus or in the Philadelphia community.

An international clinical rotation is offered to one fourth-year DO student. The applying student must have a site selected and have obtained written approval for the clerkship from the office of clinical education. A completed application and short essay is required describing the goals of the rotation and your reasons for going. Student will apply for this fellowship during their third-year and complete during their fourth-year.

The Martha and Michael J. Avallone Endowed Memorial Scholarship was established in 1995 by the late Michael F. Avallone, Sr., DO '59, in memory of his parents, Martha and Michael J. Avallone. Yearly awards will be limited to five or less students.

Candidates must be second- or third-year medical students in good academic standing, have a totally disabled parent or have lost one or both parents, are residents of Pennsylvania, and demonstrate financial need.

The Michael F. Avallone, Sr., DO '59, Memorial Scholarship was established in 2019, in memory of Dr. Avallone by his loving family, many of whom followed in Dr. Avallone's footsteps and became osteopathic physicians. Dr. Avallone was a dedicated leader beginning with his student days. After opening two practices, Dr. Avallone was one of the first to offer a "one stop" state of the art medical center in 2003. Known for a keen innovative ability that benefited every aspect of his life, Dr. Avallone held many leadership positions in medical organizations helping to shape policy in osteopathic medicine. So great his influence at the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association, the organization named their Opening Session after Dr. Avallone. The PCOM Alumni Association bestowed their highest honor, the Certificate of Honor, on Dr. Avallone in 2007. The Avallone family wishes to help deserving students, demonstrating the caring, compassionate qualities that Dr. Avallone so exemplified.

The scholarship is used to provide financial support to a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree program student at PCOM who desires to practice family medicine.

The Dr. Frederic H. Barth Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Dr. Barth who was President of Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine from June 1956 until 1974. He was appointed the first chancellor of Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, a position he held until his death in 1976.

The fund provides one scholarship in the amount of $7,500 to a second-year DO student in the top fifth of the class. Any additional income generated by the fund is distributed to financially needy DO students.

The J. Steven Blake, DO '89, Endowed Scholars Society was established by J. Steven Blake, DO '89, in 2016 to be used as a recruitment tool for African-American students, who have community service experience, demonstrated academic excellence and are interested in the DO program.

The William F. Daiber, DO '28, Endowed Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Dr. Daiber with a gift by a childhood friend, Miss Gertrude Baker. Dr. Daiber had a lifelong involvement with Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine serving for many years as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine and Program Director of Cardiovascular Training. The A. Archie Feinstein, DO '42, and Cecilia Feinstein Endowed Memorial Scholarship was established in 1994 by family, colleagues, classmates and friends in memory of Archie Feinstein, DO '42, and his wife, Cecilia. Kearney Endowed Scholarship was established in memory of John “JD” Kearney, a second-year medical student at PCOM who passed away in 1999 while trying to rescue a friend on a hiking trail in Sedona, Arizona. JD's parents, John and Lois Kearney, and siblings, Elizabeth, Drew and Adam, established this scholarship as a way of celebrating JD's life and recognizing the potential of others who, like JD, seek to become truly osteopathic physicians — caring, hands-on, compassionate and accepting of humanity's failings. The recipient of the scholarship should reflect JD’s excellence in scholarship, his broad interests and love of people and his attitude toward life which was, in his words, "carpe diem."

One scholarship will be awarded annually to a second-, third-, or fourth-year student who has shown academic merit as well as an interest in extra-curricular activities, irrespective of financial need. Special preferences will be given to graduates of Wilkes University, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, where JD received his undergraduate degree; however, the scholarship is not limited to such students. The Lambda Omicron Gamma (LOG) Endowed Scholarship is presented to a second-, third-, or fourth-year DO student who best exemplifies LOG's history and mission. The Caduceus Chapter of LOG was established at PCOM by Jewish DO students who were precluded from other fraternities because of their religion. Over the years, LOG opened its doors to women and minorities who were also excluded from the other fraternities, because of race, gender or religion.

Scholarship recipient selection is based on leadership qualities within the PCOM community, as well as interest in and involvement with the external community. The recipient(s) may not necessarily represent the most visible campus leaders, but rather those students who actively support the campus and the community. The Dr. & Mrs. Gregory G. Papadeas & Family Endowed Scholarship was established in 2016 by Gregory G. Papadeas, DO '88. The Scholarship is administered pursuant to the following criteria:

• Student recipients must be a United States citizen of Greek ancestry, a baptized Greek Orthodox Christian and an active steward of a Greek Orthodox church; and
• Eligible students must be in the Doctor of Osteopathic medicine degree program on the Philadelphia campus only.

An amount equal to 75% of the annual distribution will be awarded to a matriculated first year student; and the remaining 25% will be divided evenly among all eligible applicants (who can be in any year of study). The Parkview Endowed Memorial Scholarship was established by the physicians of Parkview Hospital upon the closing of the hospital in August 2003. Parkview Hospital, an osteopathic institution, was founded by PCOM alumni and faculty and trained many PCOM students, interns and residents during its 60+ years as a well-respected community hospital in lower northeast Philadelphia. Parkview physicians donated their remaining hospital dues to PCOM to establish this scholarship in support of DO students and to honor the memory of the hospital.
