Laura Nguyen (PharmD ’22)
Residency Match 2022

March 21, 2022

Students from the class of 2022 are celebrating the next step in their professional journey. Here they share what has inspired them along the way and what advice they would give to new students.

Laura Nguyen (PharmD ’22)Where did you match?

Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown, Columbus, Georgia

Why did you pursue a residency?

My grandma is one of my greatest motivations to not only pursue a residency, but a career in healthcare. Medication management and health literacy were difficult for her, and I always ensured that she knew how to take her medications correctly and safely. I knew that I wanted to give back, educate, and improve the quality of life for people like my grandma — and pharmacy is the perfect profession to do so! I decided to pursue a residency to further my knowledge, skills, and opportunities that will allow me to continue making meaningful contributions to patient care.

How did you feel when you found out you matched?

There were many tears, but good tears! I felt so excited and relieved!

What advice would you give to year one pharmacy students just starting their journey?

There are many career pathways in the pharmacy profession that you may not know about (clinical, community, industry, ambulatory care, etc.), so I would recommend preparing yourself to be well rounded early on to navigate any profession you want!

Is there anything else you would like to share?

Take advantage of every opportunity presented to you! Whether it's work, research, leadership, mentorship, or networking opportunity — do it!
