Kara Taylor (PsyD '22)
Match Day 2021

March 22, 2021

Students from the class of 2021 celebrated one of the most exciting days in their professional journey—Match Day. Here they share their personal match story, what has inspired them along the way and what advice they would give to students starting the journey today.

Kara Taylor (PsyD '22) will graduate from PCOM and matched at PCOM's Center for Brief TherapyWhere did you match?

Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine’s (PCOM) Center for Brief Therapy - Philadelphia, PA

What specialty did you match into and why did you choose this?

Therapy, Integrated Healthcare and Neuropsychology. I am very interested in health psychology and PCOM has a wonderful mixture of all three areas of my interest.

How did you feel when you found out you had matched?

Relieved, proud and accomplished.

What inspired you to pursue medicine?

I am pursuing a doctorate in psychology because I was a former school psychologist for 6 years, and I wanted to focus more on the clinical aspect of psychology rather than practicing within a school environment. Additionally, I love neuropsychology and gaining an understanding of brain-behavior relationships. Having an in-depth understanding of the brain and how it relates to behavior helps to further inform my therapy with patients.

What advice would you give to a first year student starting their journey?

Take this program one step at a time. Each step in the program is a milestone and an accomplishment and you should be proud of that. From passing your first class, to comps, to dissertation, take each moment in stride and enjoy this time. Focus on your own progress and don't compare yourself to others in your cohort. You will work at a pace that best fits you and your needs academically, professionally and personally. Good luck!
