Students from the class of 2021 celebrated one of the most exciting days in their professional journey—Match Day. Here they share their personal match story, what has inspired them along the way and what advice they would give to students starting the journey today.
Where did you match?Maimonides Medical Center - Brooklyn, New York
I matched into General Surgery. I first became fascinated by the operating room before medical school as a research technician working in urological surgery research. Through my medical school rotations, it quickly became clear to me that the operating room was my favorite place to be. What I love about surgery is the challenge, the development of technical expertise and the privilege of being able to use my hands to directly help heal patients. There is no better feeling than seeing a patient make a full recovery after operating on them. I look forward to the long but rewarding road that lies ahead for me!
Relieved and excited!
I knew that I wanted to be a physician after working as a scribe in a pediatric clinic prior to medical school. I have always been attracted to the qualities that being a physician embodies. I am committed and desire to serve others, to give back to my community, and to be a leader while making an impact on the world around me.
Never be afraid of your own potential, you never know what opportunities may lie behind the door that you were too afraid to open.
