Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree
PCOM DO Program - Philadelphia Campus
One of the nation's most respected osteopathic medical schools, Philadelphia College
of Osteopathic Medicine has a long, proud tradition, spanning more than a century,
of training osteopathic physicians.
PCOM is one of the oldest medical schools in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Philadelphia
area is one of the country's premier cities for medical education. Just minutes from Center City, you will study in a dynamic, highly supportive academic
community.
As a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) student, you will learn a holistic approach to health care—treating disease in the context of the whole person, considering the
interrelationships of all body systems, as well as factors such as nutrition, environment
and psychology.
About the DO Program at PCOM
The DO program curriculum combines lectures and applied, hands-on learning exercises
to instruct students in osteopathic medicine and in basic and clinical sciences. Through
the use of patient simulators and live patient actors, we provide medical students with invaluable experience in clinical procedure and
practice.
As a student in PCOM's osteopathic medical program, you’ll learn anatomy, physiology,
pathology, microbiology, clinical medicine and more in an integrated, interactive
fashion during your first and second years. As a third- and fourth-year student, you
will learn and work at hospitals and health clinics in the greater Philadelphia area
under the direction of experienced physicians in order to develop your clinical skills in all phases of patient care.
You will also experience four months in our Community Healthcare Centers, where you will be introduced to the realities of health care in underserved communities
in Philadelphia.
