OMM Clinical Scholars Program
PCOM South Georgia
The goal of the Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) Scholars Program at PCOM South Georgia is to develop students into future educators and highly skilled clinicians of osteopathic
medicine. Through this program, participating students integrate osteopathic principles
and practices (OPP) into all facets of patient care while gaining significant experience
in peer-to-peer instruction and clinical leadership.
Program Overview
Following a competitive application and interview process, selected PCOM South Georgia
osteopathic medicine students enter the program after successfully completing their
second year of study.
OMM Scholars undertake specialized academic, clinical, and research responsibilities
that go beyond the standard DO curriculum. To accommodate these enhanced requirements, the program extends the clinical clerkship
curriculum to three years rather than two. During this time, scholars receive at least
12 months of concentrated clinical training within the Department of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine.
Program Benefits
Participating in the South Georgia OMM Scholars Program offers several professional
and financial advantages, including:
- Tuition Remission: Significant financial support through tuition credits.
- Monthly Stipend: Financial assistance for living expenses during the three-year clinical period.
- Travel Allowance: Support for attending and presenting at professional osteopathic conferences and
clinical workshops.
Role and Responsibilities
Scholars serve as student faculty, assisting in OMM labs for first- and second-year
students, providing clinical treatments under supervision, and contributing to the
advancement of osteopathic research in the South Georgia region.
Additionally, students participate 1–2 days per week in an outpatient clinic, where
they perform Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) and engage in direct patient care alongside clinical faculty, further strengthening
their practical skills and clinical judgment.
