Shay Gibson (DO ’20)
Match Day 2020

March 30, 2020

In the midst of a global pandemic, students from the class of 2020 at PCOM Georgia celebrated one of the most exciting days in their professional journey—match day. Here they share their personal match story, what has inspired them along the way and what advice they would give to students starting the journey today.

Shay Gibson (DO ’20)What inspired you to go into medicine?

I have always had a passion for helping others! Combine that with my love for science and people, and medicine was the best place for me!

Where did you match?

Cahaba Medical Care in Centreville, Alabama.

What specialty have you chosen to pursue and why?

Family medicine because it allows me to make my future practice whatever I want it to be. I love the broadness and diversity of family medicine.

How did you feel when you found out you matched?

Ecstatic. This is a dream come true. After years of hard work, it has finally come to a culmination of actually getting to practice what I've been learning for years.

What advice would you give to year one medical students just starting their journey?

It will all be worth it in the end. Keep your head up. Through all the hard times (especially your first two years), know that you were meant to be right where you are right now.
