Students from the class of 2022 are celebrating the next step in their professional journey. Here they share what has inspired them along the way and what advice they would give to new students.
Where did you match?University of South Carolina School of Medicine - Prisma Health, Greenville, South Carolina
I chose Internal Medicine because I believe it would allow me to provide comprehensive care to my patients while addressing various organ systems. Additionally, I am able to serve as their primary doctor during their hospital admission and provide that continuity of care. Also, I am interested in pursuing a subspecialty fellowship later down the road.
I was beyond thrilled to know that I would be heading to South Carolina. It still feels unreal to be at this part of the medical school journey! My program really stood out to me during interview season, and I am really excited to be a part of the team at Prisma.
The entire process seems really daunting, but I think it’s truly important to enjoy each portion of the journey because it won't be the same as the next. Take your time with patients on rotations because there are always learning opportunities and you are laying the foundation to be a kind and compassionate physician. The next couple of years will help you figure out what aspects of medicine are attractive to you. It’s not always a clear-cut answer, and you'll like multiple specialties along the way (and that’s ok!). Also, it’s so important to take those mental breaks and go do something fun to get your mind off school!
Medical school has introduced me to life-long friends that have always been there for me. I think it's important to build a strong support system with friends and family because there will definitely be rough and stressful days along the way. Grateful for everyone because it truly does take a village!
