About the Student Success Center

In early 2026, the SSC was renovated to modernize existing spaces, expand academic and co-curricular resources, and create inclusive environments that support diverse learning and engagement needs. Renovations prioritized flexibility, accessibility, and student-informed design to ensure the facility effectively supports academic persistence and student well-being. For example, acoustic wall tiles were installed to provide sound dampening and functional bulletin board space for campus announcements.

All renovations were funded with donations from alumni and friends to the PCOM United & Ignited fundraising campaign, which aims to enhance the student experience. PCOM is incredibly grateful for their generosity and support to this important initiative.

The fitness center is equipped with cardiovascular and strength training equipment as well as locker rooms. PCOM students, faculty, and staff are welcome to attend free daily fitness classes in the exercise studio and can inquire about personal fitness consultations.

The first floor features updated signage and a welcoming entry. A Student Club Center provides dedicated space for student leaders and registered clubs to meet, collaborate, relax, and securely store materials that support student-led activities.

  • Calabro Commons: Thanks to the generosity of Joseph J. Calabro, DO ’81, the Calabro Lounge serves as a multi-purpose space with benches, tables, and chairs to gather and study, as well as table games and vending machines.
  • Biggs Connection Corner: Robert H. Biggs, DO ’76 supported the renovation of this space. Updated furniture and expanded study options will support both individual and group learning. The Student Food Pantry is centrally located on this floor to ensure easy access to this essential resources.

The entire third floor has been designated as the Gene and Roz Chaiken Academic Center of Excellence, organized into four distinct zones:

  1. Knowledge Hub: Dedicated space for testing accommodations and study rooms.
  2. Advising Center: Located within the Knowledge Hub, this area allows students to meet with professional advising staff in a quiet, confidential setting. Individual study pods support focused, independent learning.
  3. The Workshop: An open, flexible space with tables and seating for academic workshops, events, testing accommodations and general study use.
  4. Focus Zone: Former recreational spaces were converted into quiet study and testing areas through the installation of drop ceilings, sound dampening panels, carpeting and study carrels. While the primary use is for testing accommodations, the space is available for student study when not scheduled for exams.

The roof of the Student Success Center features an open-air deck and picnic tables with views of the Philadelphia skyline. The roof's sports court is suitable for deck hockey, basketball, and pickleball.

Located just a block away from the Student Success Center is a large grass field suitable for flag football, soccer, and ultimate frisbee. Additionally, the field is surrounded by a walking track and exercise stations.
