PCOM Faculty Member Honored Among Pennsylvania’s Top Physicians Under 40
June 9, 2025
Jason Kaplan, DO ’13, chair of the division of cardiology and clinical professor in PCOM’s Department of Internal Medicine, has been recognized by the Pennsylvania Medical Society as one of its 2025 Top Physicians Under 40—an honor celebrating exceptional early-career physicians whose contributions are
already shaping the future of health care in the Commonwealth.
Nominated by colleagues and selected by a committee of Pennsylvania Medical Society
member physicians, the award recognizes not only Kaplan’s excellence in patient care
and cardiology, but also his commitment to educating the next generation of physicians
at PCOM and beyond.
“It means a lot to know that the care I try to give—both to my patients and to my
students—is making a difference. I’ve always aimed to be someone my patients can trust
and feel comfortable with,” Kaplan said. “I’m also thankful for the chance to give
back through teaching and mentorship, whether at PCOM, Temple, or with the residents
and fellows I’ve worked with over the years.”
At PCOM, Dr. Kaplan serves as chair of cardiology, clinical course director and online
preceptor of cardiovascular medicine, coordinating in-person and online training across
all three campuses. In addition to his academic role, he practices as an attending
noninvasive cardiologist at St. Luke’s University Health Network. Named PCOM’s 2019 Innovative Teacher of the Year, he understands the importance of hybrid education—blending flexibility with academic
rigor to meet the evolving needs of today’s medical students.
“I want our students to walk away curious and hungry for more knowledge,” he said.
“That desire—to keep learning, to keep getting better—helps to make a great physician.
My job is to help ignite that spark.”
Inspired by mentors like Pat Lannutti, DO ’71, MSC, and Bruce Kornberg, DO '78, Kaplan continues to prioritize personal, compassionate care—striving to ensure patients
feel genuinely seen and supported.
