PhD in Educational Psychology
PCOM
In today's challenging educational environment, organizations need highly effective
professionals equipped to make a positive impact on student outcomes.
- The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program is designed to be completed in three years
of full-time study, but students may also pursue a degree on a part-time basis.
- The program is geared toward working professionals. Coursework is delivered through
a hybrid format with both online and on-campus classes. The majority of classes are
offered in the late afternoon and early evening.
- Our unique program structure exposes students to experiential and hands-on learning
exercises.
- The PhD program prepares graduates to lead within educational systems such as school
boards, higher education commissions and departments of education.
Our goal at PCOM is to provide advanced training for school psychologists, school
counselors and those in related fields, adhering to the scholar-practitioner model.
This training is designed for individuals who have completed a master's degree (preferably
in a 60-credit or more program), are certified to practice in their field, and are
seeking to acquire additional skills and explore expanded career opportunities. Applicants
should have a strong background and interest in research and data-based decision making.
As a student in the Doctor of Philosophy program (PhD) in Educational Psychology at
PCOM, you will:
- gain further understanding of the educational and psychological processes involved
in learning and apply these to current issues in the field.
- select an area in which to receive specialized training such as neuropsychological
assessment, cognitive behavior therapy, or applied behavior analysis.
- become an expert in an area of your choice as you develop a program of research, uniquely
designed to meet your professional goals.

About the PhD in Educational Psychology Program
The PhD in Educational Psychology program is designed to be completed in three years
of full-time study, although students may choose to pursue a degree on a part-time
basis, typically not beyond five years. Because the program is geared toward working
professionals, the majority of classes are offered in the late afternoon and early
evening, some of which begin at 4 p.m. Coursework is delivered in a hybrid format,
with both online and on-campus classes.
While there is no formal practicum or internship associated with this program and
graduates are not eligible to sit for licensure as psychologists, the hours of the
program and the flexibility allow students to continue to work making this program
a great fit for many.
PhD in Educational Psychology Career Options
Since most colleges and universities require professors and instructors to have a
doctoral degree, graduates of our PhD program may choose to pursue careers teaching
in a higher education setting.
Graduates will be better prepared to assume leadership roles within educational systems
such as serving on school boards, higher education commissions and departments of
education.
