Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine
Student Elective Rotation
The fastest growing cohort of the population is those aged 65 and older. To address the needs of this group, PCOM offers a four- week elective rotation in geriatric and palliative medicine for OMS 3 and 4 students. You will work with our team to provide care for older adults throughout the continuum of medical care.
Experiences
Your time will be customized to meet your desired learning objectives, with opportunities to focus on either geriatric medicine or hospice and palliative medicine. Your schedule may include outpatient office hours in Suite 317, Rowland Hall on the PCOM campus, patient visits to several local skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), and participation in the PCOM Memory Center, where you will observe the interdisciplinary evaluation and management of patients with cognitive concerns. Students may also participate in inpatient geriatric and palliative care consults at Roxborough Memorial Hospital. An option to accompany providers on home visits may be available. Throughout the rotation, you will have the opportunity to observe and interact with interdisciplinary care teams in both the skilled nursing facilities and the Memory Center.
