Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) is furthering its commitment to women's health with two new offerings at its Psychological Services Center (PPS) – the Reproductive Psychology Clinic and the Sleep Group for Women. Both services provide specialized, evidence-based care designed to support women's psychological and physiological needs throughout life's transitions.

Reproductive Psychology Clinic

The PCOM Reproductive Psychology Clinic supports women ages 18 and older as they navigate the emotional and mental health challenges that can accompany reproductive life events.

From pregnancy and postpartum support, to infertility, perinatal loss, birth trauma and infant admission to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), the clinic offers individual therapy using evidence-based treatments tailored to each woman's needs and circumstances.

Therapy is provided by advanced graduate students in clinical psychology under the supervision of a licensed psychologist certified in perinatal mental health, with both in-person and virtual sessions available to ensure accessibility and flexibility.

“There is a growing recognition that women navigating reproductive concerns benefit from specialized psychological care that meets them where they are,” said Alexa Bonacquisti, PhD, PMH-C, associate professor of clinical psychology and director of the Reproductive Psychology Clinic. “Our goal is to provide a safe, supportive space for women to process their experiences and strengthen their emotional wellbeing during some of life's most meaningful, and sometimes most difficult, moments.”

Sleep Group for Women

In addition to individual therapy services, PPS offers a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) group exclusively for women. This in-person program supports women ages 18 and older who experience difficulty falling or staying asleep, helping them build healthier sleep habits and improve overall wellbeing.

By the end of the program, participants will gain:

  • A personalized sleep plan tailored to their individual needs
  • A better understanding of women-specific sleep issues
  • Techniques to fall asleep and stay asleep
  • Tools to manage sleep-related worries
  • Strategies to calm the mind and body
  • Confidence in their ability to achieve restful, consistent sleep

“Sleep issues are incredibly common among women, yet are often overlooked or minimized,” said Jacqueline D. Kloss, PhD, professor of clinical psychology and director of the Sleep Group for Women. “Through this program we aim to empower women with practical tools and a better understanding of how to restore healthy, restorative sleep.”

Those interested in participating in either program can schedule a free screening call by contacting PCOM Psychological Services on the Philadelphia campus.
