Minal Mulye, PhD, associate professor of Microbiology and Immunology at PCOM, has been named the recipient of the 2025 Northrup Educator Award, an honor recognizing an osteopathic medical school faculty member who demonstrates exceptional dedication to enriching student learning and fostering academic excellence.

Since joining the College in 2021, Dr. Mulye has been deeply engaged in teaching, research and service. In the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) program, Dr. Mulye serves as the course director of Infection and Immunity (I&I) and teaches in I&I, Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Medicine courses. She also teaches in the Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences program, where she contributes to the Infectious Processes course.

Dr. Mulye was nominated for this award by PCOM's Student Osteopathic Medical Association (SOMA) Chapter for her unwavering commitment to mentoring the next generation of osteopathic physicians. Her support extends beyond the classroom through individualized academic counseling for first- and second-year DO students and active involvement in advancing scientific research, including manuscript development and grant proposals that foster student success within the research community.

In addition to her mentorship, Dr. Mulye is the co-chair of DO curriculum committee, a member of the Executive Faculty and the Institutional Animal Care and Usage Committee, while serving as a faculty advisor for student groups PCOM Hearts, DO More, Infectious Disease Club and the South Asian Medical Student Association.

About the Northrup Educator of the Year Award

The George W. Northup Educator of the Year Award honors the legacy of George Northup, DO, a respected mentor known for his extraordinary dedication to osteopathic medical students.

Each year, local SOMA chapters nominate a professor, dean or faculty member who reflects Dr. Northup's commitment to student success—often exemplified through mentoring, exam preparation support and community engagement.

Nominees like Dr. Mulye are chosen through a national voting process conducted by SOMA delegates representing osteopathic medical schools across the United States.

“This award is a sign to me that what I'm doing is actually helping the students and making, even in a small way, a meaningful difference,” Dr. Mulye said as she accepted the award at the OMED 2025 Conference in Nashville. “It's not just us as educators that are teaching you. Remember that in this entire process we are learning from you as well.”

Dr. Mulye's recognition is a testament to PCOM's mission to foster faculty who inspire innovation and excellence, empowering students to advance as compassionate, forward-thinking leaders in the health professions.
