Led by PCOM’s Community Wellness Initiative (CWI), the event offered free health screenings and wellness resources for community members,
including blood pressure readings, family-friendly activities, food trucks, live music,
and giveaways. Students, faculty, and staff from across the College volunteered their
time to provide wellness education and hands-on support to local residents.
As part of CWI’s Legacy Pledge to Philadelphia250—a citywide initiative celebrating the nation’s upcoming 250th birthday—PCOM donated
250 winter coats, hats, and gloves to help local communities prepare for the winter
season.
“Wellness starts with meeting people where they are—whether that’s through education,
health services, or simply ensuring families have what they need to stay warm through
the winter,” said Flo Byarms, director of PCOM’s Community Wellness Initiative. “These Community Days bring tremendous
joy, not only to our neighbors, but also to our students, who experience the impact
of service and connection firsthand.”
PCOM’s Community Days are cornerstone events for the College’s Healthcare Centers, reflecting the institution’s deep-rooted presence in the Philadelphia community.
Through these gatherings, PCOM strengthens relationships with local residents, reduces
barriers to care, and provides meaningful opportunities for students to engage directly
with the communities they serve.
