Lucy Fisher is Cut to Lead One Student’s Journey Through Medicine, Mentorship and Meaning
February 11, 2026
If you are out and about on PCOM Georgia's campus, you'd be hard-pressed to go a day without bumping into second-year medical student,
Lucy Fisher. A dedicated and consistent presence in the student community, we sat
down with her to discover what drives her level of involvement.
Lucy Fisher (DO '28)
A naturally organized and determined person, Lucy Fisher (DO '28) is a friendly and
familiar face among many of her peers and professors at PCOM Georgia.
From her early years, when friends would affectionately call her the “mom” of the
group, to her time as an undergraduate at University of Georgia where she took on
key organizational roles and now as a second-year Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) student at PCOM Georgia, Fisher has continually sought opportunities to refine her
leadership skills both personally and professionally.
Her key roles include being the President of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons
- Medical Student Section, and the Vice President of the Association of Women's Surgeons.
Fisher also serves as the PR Representative for the DO Council, the Community Service
Liaison for Sigma Sigma Phi - Zeta Chapter, a community-focused honors fraternity,
the PR Coordinator for the Sports Medicine Club, blending her love for sports and
medicine, and an Anatomy Teaching Assistant, helping peers and first-year students
get by in their studies.
While Fisher's extracurricular activities reflect her diverse pursuits, her involvement
isn't just about filling her calendar or building her resume—she finds purpose in
helping others, organizing meaningful events and fostering connections within the
student community.
“In doing all these things, as cliché as it can be, I enjoy helping people—I enjoy
being involved, and being able to have these roles where I know I'm helping people
who need it, or organize events that will benefit the PCOM community—I find a lot
of joy and purpose in that,” shared Fisher.
Her passion currently lies in orthopedic surgery, a discipline she likes due to its
hands-on and immediate nature. It was due to her personal experience breaking her
ankle while ice skating in college and shadowing a DO orthopedic surgeon that she
initially became curious about the field.
Fisher and her parents
“I'm drawn to surgery because of the immediate gratification of it… Knowing that something
broken can be fixed. I know in the long run and in the immediate, the person is better
and that I've helped them.”
Originally from Alpharetta, Fisher is very close with her parents who have been her
biggest supporters.
“Both are incredibly hardworking and have been amazing role models to me when it comes
to how to conduct myself in a professional setting as well as cultivating relationships
in my day to day life. Their support and example have fueled me to succeed.”
A firm believer in the mantra, “work hard, play hard,” Fisher strives to balance it
all.
“Yes, I work hard, but it's also so that I can go and celebrate. If things don't go
as planned, you learn and grow… You should be able to enjoy yourself in medical school,”
offered Fisher.
As for the future, she envisions one day practicing medicine in the Southeast, close
to her family and friends, balancing her leadership roles, career ambitions and love
for an active lifestyle.
