DAVID MCDONALD
Clinical Instructor
Detective Sergeant David McDonald has been a police officer for more than 40 years
and is currently employed by the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office Criminal
Investigation Division, where he supervised the Forensic Science Unit and served as
Bomb Squad commander.
Within the Forensic Science Unit, McDonald supervised the Crime Scene Unit and oversaw
crime scene investigations. He has conducted more than 3,000 crime scene investigations
and is a court-recognized expert in crime scene reconstruction, bloodstain pattern
analysis, and fingerprint development, examination and identification. He has testified
in hundreds of criminal proceedings at every level of court, from local district magisterial
courts up to federal court.
Before serving more than 30 years as a detective, McDonald worked as a patrol officer
for several law enforcement agencies in a variety of settings. As a patrol officer,
he responded to routine service calls as well as violent assaults and homicides.
McDonald also provides consultation to law enforcement agencies across the country,
assisting with the analysis of violent crime scenes, including homicides, and the
identification of human remains.
For the past 20 years, McDonald has served as a clinical assistant professor at PCOM,
teaching in the MS in Forensic Medicine program. He has also taught forensic science and delivered guest lectures at other colleges
and universities, as well as at law enforcement training conferences and seminars.
