Founders’ Day 2024 Honorees Announced

Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) has announced that Bruce Kornberg, DO ’78, FACC, FACOI, and Michael A. Becker, DO ’87, MS, FACOFP, are this year’s recipients of the O.J. Snyder Memorial Medal and the PCOM Alumni Association Certificate of Honor, respectively.

Drs. Kornberg and Becker will be honored at the College’s Founders’ Day ceremony on the evening of Thursday, January 25. In recognition of the College’s historic 125th Anniversary, members of the campus community are invited to congratulate the award recipients at the 125th Anniversary Kick-Off Celebration on January 25, 2024, at noon in Evans Hall.

O. J. Snyder Memorial Medal Recipient

Bruce Kornberg, DO ’78, FACC, FACOI, is this year’s recipient of PCOM’s O.J. Snyder Memorial Medal. Considering himself a PCOM “lifer,” Dr. Kornberg’s storied history at the College spans 50 years, from student to teacher, mentor, academic and clinical leader, and award winner. Dr. Kornberg is a 12-time recipient of PCOM's Clinical Teacher of the Year Award, received the Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Award for Outstanding Teaching in 1990, and in 1992 was elected as a fellow of the American College of Cardiology. In June 2023, he was elected to the PCOM Alumni Association Board. From 2018-2023, he was named a Top Doc in Philadelphia by Philadelphia Magazine. Retiring in June 2023, Dr. Kornberg now works part-time with the Lankenau Heart Group as well as instructing first-year courses at PCOM. Learn more about Dr. Kornberg.

About the O.J. Snyder Memorial Medal

The O.J. Snyder Memorial Medal is presented in memory of the co-founder of PCOM and is the College's highest award, which recognizes leadership and service to the osteopathic profession and to the institution.

PCOM Alumni Association Certificate of Honor Recipient

Also receiving honors at this year’s Founders’ Day celebration is Michael A. Becker, DO ’87, MS, FACOFP, associate dean of clinical education, who will receive the PCOM Alumni Association Certificate of Honor. This recognizes distinguished services rendered and loyal devotion to PCOM and is the highest honor bestowed by the PCOM Alumni Association. Learn more about Dr. Becker.

About Founders' Day

Founders’ Day celebrates the birth of PCOM in 1899 by Drs. Snyder and Pressly, who sought to bring the osteopathic philosophy of whole-person healthcare to Philadelphia. The 2024 Founders' Day award recipients embody the dedication, loyalty, and service to the College that our founders, O.J. Snyder and Mason W. Pressly, exhibited.
