For Bhavik Singh (DO '27), being named PCOM Georgia's 2026 Student Doctor of the Year was deeply connected to what the honor represented. He sees the recognition as a reflection of the mentors, classmates and patients who have shaped his journey and made the award especially meaningful at this stage of his training in osteopathic medicine.

“To be recognized for something I genuinely care about—serving others and my community—was incredibly meaningful,” he said. “As I transition from the classroom to clinical medicine, receiving this award affirms the values I've tried to carry with me. Integrity, service and genuine connection with patients still matter as the pace and responsibilities increase. As I prepare for residency and a career in medicine, being named Student Doctor of the Year reinforces my commitment to staying grounded in purpose.”

Much of this grounding has been shaped by his time at PCOM Georgia. Guided by osteopathic medicine's emphasis on whole-person care, Singh looks beyond symptoms alone to consider how physical, emotional, and social factors shape each patient experience—whether listening closely, taking extra time to explain a treatment plan, supporting classmates or engaging with his community.

“PCOM has played a major role in shaping how I view patients—not just as diagnoses, but as people with unique stories, environments and challenges that influence their health,” he said.

For Singh, leadership in medicine begins with service—a principle that has shaped his medical education. Serving as Student Government President gave him insight into academic medicine while reinforcing the importance of clear communication, accountability and thoughtful advocacy. Beyond student government, Singh has served as ENT Club Secretary, a peer tutor and a clinical medicine teaching assistant, roles that strengthened his commitment to mentorship.

Singh's path to PCOM Georgia began at the University of Georgia, where he earned an undergraduate degree in genetics and developed a strong interest in understanding the root causes of disease rather than simply treating symptoms. Drawn to PCOM Georgia for its supportive learning environment and emphasis on service, he has continued to refine his clinical interests—particularly in fields that focus on anatomy and quality of life.

“PCOM has provided an ideal setting for me to grow into a physician who values both scientific rigor and compassionate, patient-centered care,” Singh said. “Looking ahead, I plan to carry these experiences forward as a physician by remaining actively involved in leadership, mentorship, patient advocacy and academic scholarship.”

Each year, the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Council across PCOM's campuses selects a Student Doctor of the Year. Sponsored by the Council of Osteopathic Student Government Presidents, part of the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM), the honor recognizes a student who exemplifies leadership, service, professionalism, and a commitment to osteopathic whole-person care.
