Murray R. Berkowitz, DO, MA, MS, MPH, associate dean and professor, Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine, was appointed to the American Osteopathic Association’s Bureau of Scientific Affairs and Public Health as a member-at-large for a three-year term.

Kerin Claeson, PhD, associate professor, anatomy, co-authored “The Late Jurassic ray Kimmerobatis etchesi gen. et sp. nov. and the Jurassic radiation of the Batoidea,” in the Proceedings of the Geologists' Association.

Gary Freed, DO, clinical professor, pediatrics, published “The History of Home Cardiorespiratory Monitoring,” in the journal Pediatric Annals.

Samuel M. John, PharmD, assistant professor, pharmacy practice; Candis McGraw-Senat, PharmD, assistant professor, pharmacy practice; and Drew W. Cates, PharmD, assistant professor, pharmacy practice; with Melissa Williams, PharmD ’17 and Hiral Gandhi, PharmD ’17, published “Managing Chronic Kidney Disease with MTM,” in US Pharmacist.

Naima Jihad, (DO ’18), MPH, co-authored “Using Practice Facilitation to Increase Rates of Colorectal Cancer Screening in Community Health Centers, North Carolina, 2012-2013: Feasibility, Facilitators, and Barriers,” in the journal “Preventing Chronic Disease.”

Michelle Lent, PhD, associate professor, psychology, co-authored “All-Cause and Specific-Cause Mortality Risk After Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass in Patients With and Without Diabetes,” in the journal Diabetes Care.

Quang Pham, DO, Otolaryngology resident, co-authored, “Botulinum Toxin Injections Into the Lateral Cricoarytenoid Muscles for Vocal Process Granuloma,” in the Journal of Voice.

Rangaiah Shashidharamurthy, PhD, associate professor, pharmaceutical sciences; and Srujana Rayalam, PhD, assistant professor, pharmaceutical sciences; with Janaiya Samuels, MS/Biomed ’17; and Stephen Alvarez (PharmD ’19), published “Xanthohumol stimulates the secretion of catecholamines and induces M2 polarization in raw 264.7 macrophages,” in Endocrine Reviews. Drs. Shashidharamurthy and Rayalam also published “Direct and indirect effects of guggulsterone on the induction of beiging in mature 3T3-L1 adipocytes,” in that publication, and Dr. Rayalam and Ms. Samuels published “The anti-obesity effects of xanthohumol are partly mediated by the adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase signaling pathway,” in that publication.

Nicole L. Stewart, (PsyD ’18), co-authored “Weight and Eating Concerns in Women's Reproductive Health,” in the journal “Current Psychiatry Reports.”

Dianzheng Zhang, PhD, co-authored “TGFβ1 promotes gemcitabine resistance through regulating the LncRNA-LET/NF90/miR-145 signaling axis in bladder cancer,” in the journal Theranostics. Dr. Zhang also co-authored Metformin inhibits castration-induced EMT in prostate cancer by repressing COX2/PGE2/STAT3 axis,” in the journal Cancer Letters.
