The April 2020 edition of Kudos highlights faculty, staff, resident and student publications and accolades at PCOM, PCOM Georgia and PCOM South Georgia.

Laurence Belkoff, DO ’75, chair, urology, was named the 2020 recipient of the American Urological Association Residents and Fellows Committee Teaching Award.

Matthew Beck, DO ’19, graduate medical intern, co-authored “Union Rate, Complication Rate, and Opioid Usage After Vancouver B Periprosthetic Femur Fractures: A Comparison of Fracture Types,” which published in the journal Orthopaedic Surgery.

Stacey Blannett (DO ‘22) co-authored “Curvilinear Undulating Erythematous Plaque,” which published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology Case Reports.

Jason Cohn, DO, resident, otolaryngology, was first author on “Advanced Techniques for the Use of Neurotoxins in Non-Surgical Facial Rejuvenation,” which published in the journal Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

Zachary Danssaert (DO ’21) and Robert Libera (DO ’21) co-authored “Priapism in a 28-Year-Old Male with Bipolar Disorder,” which published in the journal Cureus.

Avijit Deb (DO ‘20) co-authored “Characteristics and Outcomes of Gastrointestinal Bleeding in Patients with Continuous-Flow Left Ventricular Assist Devices: A Systematic Review,” which published in the American Society for Artificial Internal Organs Journal.

Jennifer Glusman (DO ’21) co-authored “Unplanned Readmissions of Children with Epilepsy in the United States,” which published in the journal Pediatric Neurology.

Daniel Horuzsko (DO ‘23) co-authored “A Novel Mechanism for Human Leukocyte Antigen-G Dimer in Prolongation of Renal Allograft Survival,” which published in the Journal of Investigative Medicine.

Joseph Kacmarczyk, DO ‘82, interim dean, osteopathic medicine program at PCOM Georgia, co-authored “To the Point: Integrating Patient Safety Education Into the Obstetrics and Gynecology Undergraduate Curriculum,” which published in the Journal of Patient Safety.

Kristine Kim (DO ‘22) co-authored “Case Management and Capacity Building to Enhance Hepatitis C Treatment Uptake at Community Health Centers in a Large Urban Setting,” which published in the journal Family and Community Health.

Douglas Koch, EdD, academic development coordinator, earned his Doctor of Education in Educational Technology Leadership from New Jersey City University. He was also named to the board of the Pennsylvania/Delaware/New Jersey Distance Learning Association (PADLA).

Michelle Lent, PhD, associate professor, clinical psychology, co-authored “The Effect of Food Composition and Behavior on Neurobiological Response to Food: A Review of Recent Research,” which published in the journal Current Nutrition Reports.

Hua Ling, PharmD, assistant professor, pharmacy; Jordan Dimmel (PharmD ’21); and Andrew Hawkins (PharmD ’21) co-authored “P2Y12 Inhibitor Monotherapy After a Short Dual Antiplatelet Therapy vs. 12-Month Dual Antiplatelet Therapy in Patients Undergoing Percutaneous Coronary Intervention: A Meta-Analysis,” which published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

Yasin Kanakrieh (DO ’20) co-authored “153 A Lost Family Secret Masquerading as Schizoaffective Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury. The Atypical, Non-Choreiform Subtype of Huntington’s Disease,” which published in the journal CNS Spectrums.

Handong Ma, research laboratory manager, PCOM Georgia and Yan Wu, MS, research staff, PCOM Georgia, co-authored “Growth Inhibition and Apoptosis of Human Multiple Myeloma Cells Induced by 2-Cyano-3, 12-Dioxooleana-1, 9-Dien-28-Oic Acid Derivatives,” which published in the journal Anti-Cancer Drugs.

Jude Opoku-Agyeman, DO, fellow, plastic surgery; Lauren Coffua (DO '20); and Jamee Simone (DO '22) co-authored "Exophytic Adiposis Dolorosa (Dercum's Disease) of the Thigh: A Case Report," which published in the journal Cureus.

Erin O’Pry (DO ‘20) co-authored “Carbon Fiber Reinforced PEEK (CFR-PEEK) Versus Titanium Tibial Intramedullary Nailing: A Preliminary Analysis and Results,” which published in the Journal of Orthopeadic Trauma.

Dominic Parfianowicz (DO ’21) co-authored “Hypoplasia of Depressor Angularis Oris in a Male Neonate Associated with Cephalohematoma,” which published in the journal Cureus.

Mark Pastore, DO, resident, orthopedic surgery and Anthony Viola, DO, resident, orthopedic surgery, co-authored “Trends of Obese and Morbidly Obese Patients in Same-Day Bilateral Total Knee Arthroplasty from 2009 to 2016,” which published in The Journal of Knee Surgery.

Dianzheng Zhang, PhD, professor, bio-medical sciences and Kyla Geary, division of research and co-authored “Emerging Therapeutic Strategies for COVID-19 Patients,” which published in the journal Discoveries (Craiova).

PCOM’s Gold Humanism Honor Society was recognized as an “outstanding branch” by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation for their work and creativity during the 2019-2020 academic year.
