Hayley Arrowood (DO '22)
Match Day 2022

March 22, 2022

Students from the class of 2022 are celebrating the next step in their professional journey. Here they share what has inspired them along the way and what advice they would give to new students.

PCOM Georgia med student Hayley Arrowood (DO '22) describes matching in neurology.Where did you match?

Vassar Brother's Medical Center/Nuvance Health in Poughkeepsie, New York.

What specialty did you match into and why did you choose this?

Neurology. There are so many awesome reasons to go into neurology, but I'll be brief: The brain is absolutely the coolest organ in the body!

How did you feel when you found out you had matched?

Surprised! Grateful that I get to pursue my dream to be a neurologist. This is a big move for me from my hometown in the Atlanta area. I have never moved out of state, so I'm excited for the adventure that awaits.

What advice would you give to first year medical students starting their journey?

Whatever specialty makes you excited to go to work every day, go for it. Don't hold back! Keep pushing and working hard for your dream. It's 100% worth it (sleepless nights, weird schedules, grueling study days and demanding clinical rotations). It's worth all of the tough days to get here if you're doing what you love. For me, that's stroke codes, seizures and working with families that are taking care of family members with dementia—and so much more!

Is there anything else you would like to share?

I am so thankful for my friends and family who have been with me every step of the way. It takes a whole army of people to get you to your dream and I am so incredibly grateful for mine.
