Match Day 2021

March 22, 2021

Students from the class of 2021 celebrated one of the most exciting days in their professional journey—Match Day. Here they share their personal match story, what has inspired them along the way and what advice they would give to students starting the journey today.

Headshot of Dominique Cross, DO '21Where did you match?

Tulane University - New Orleans, Louisiana

What specialty did you match into and why did you choose this?

Internal Medicine-Pediatrics. I chose this specialty because of the appeal of being able to treat both adults and children of any acuity in any setting. To me, it’s the best double major there is.

How did you feel when you found out you had matched?

When I found out that I matched I was relieved and thrilled.

What inspired you to pursue medicine?

I’ve wanted to be a doctor as long as I can remember, but my interest was solidified when I was 13. At that time, I would visit with a little girl who had cancer. In fact, she was treated in the same hospital where I matched.

What advice would you give to a first year student starting their journey?

Your journey is not everyone else’s journey—and that’s okay. Mine was certainly a roundabout journey. Don’t compare your story to anyone. Stay your course and true to yourself. Do your best and constantly look for the learning opportunity.
