Our mission

The mission of the Center for Brief Therapy is twofold: training and clinical service. As a training site, the Center for Brief Therapy offers the opportunity for graduate psychology students to refine their skills and develop into compassionate, sensitive and culturally aware professionals.  As one of PCOM’s patient service centers, we provide high quality, affordable mental and behavioral health services to the community. We endeavor to reach diverse individuals, including those who might not otherwise have access to these services.

Integrated health care services

The Center staff is trained in the treatment of psychological problems related to medical conditions. Staff members recognize the importance of the mind-body connection as well as the impact medical conditions can have on psychological well-being. We also offer a wellness/healthy lifestyles program.

Medical professionals frequently refer patients with the following issues to the Center:

  • Chronic pain management
  • Sleep disorders
  • Stress management
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Weight management
  • Adjustments to medical conditions such as cancer, diabetes, stroke, heart conditions and infertility
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Smoking cessation
