Why is PCOM Wellness Fest being held virtually in 2020?

At PCOM, the health and safety of all members of our community are of the utmost importance. With over 1,000 attendees each year, the safest way for us to deliver the information, resources and entertainment that are synonymous with Wellness Fest is virtually!

How will I access virtual Wellness Fest?

Wellness Fest will be presented using an online platform accessible from the internet browser on your phone, tablet or computer. You will be able to attend Wellness Fest from anywhere in the world with an internet connection.

11:15 - 11:45 a.m. Speaker Treating and Preventing Quarantine Aches and Pains

The length of time quarantining at home takes a toll on the mind and the body. Compounded with attempting to work a regular schedule at home while dealing with all the additional stressors of life can give us pains in our muscles, joints and bones. Since many specialties that would normally treat these issues with manual manipulation are closed, it is now more important than ever to learn ways and find tools that can help alleviate or lessen the severity of our own pains and prevent them from returning. Through some basic exercises, postural adjustments and a few tools, many of these pains can be treated. Dr. Levin and his wife will demonstrate some of these and will also answer questions about treating these pains.

Join Vetri Community Partnership (VCP) for their virtual workshop where they’ll demonstrate how to create sauteed cabbage and wilted greens with butternut squash ribbons.

VCP was established to help participants experience the connection between healthy eating and healthy living. VCP empowers children and their families to lead healthier lives through fresh food, hands-on experiences and education. The organization was founded in 2008 by Chef Marc Vetri and Jeff Benjamin and today has a total of four different programs that reach thousands of participants a year through an array of different partnerships.

While many people are turning to therapy and mental health services in increasing numbers, the stigma of mental illness and mental health help-seeking still continues to be a hindrance for many African-Americans. This session will explore health disparities, public and private stigma, as well as racial trauma and reasons why many African Americans are hesitant to reach out for help. It will also talk about how and why the number of African Americans willing to attend therapy is increasing.
