Activities Center

PCOM's Activities Center, which opened in 1999, was built to give students a place to exercise or take a study break. The 55,000-square-foot facility is available to PCOM students, student spouses and employees. Student membership is included in the general student fee.

The center includes student lounges with large TVs; recreation/game room areas with pool tables, foosball and ping-pong; professional basketball and racquetball courts; and a roof-level multi-sport deck suitable for deck hockey, basketball, soccer and shuffleboard. The deck also has several outdoor tables, benches and lounge chairs for relaxing and enjoying the skyline view of the city.

There is a state-of-the-art cardiovascular and strength training area with a wide variety of treadmills, upright and recumbent bicycles, elliptical trainers, cross trainers, steppers and a versa climber. In addition, the floor has strength training equipment and free weights, all designed to keep the novice and the professional in top-notch condition. Group exercise classes, including Pilates, yoga, spin, indoor cycling, tai chi, interval step, kickboxing, body conditioning and aerobics, are offered throughout the year.

Intramural leagues are also part of the Activities Center, with deck hockey and basketball the most popular. In addition, many PCOM team sports are played on the athletic field (Monument Road), such as soccer and rugby in men's and women's divisions. A .27-mile cinder track surrounds the field. Personal training is also available to attain specific fitness goals. Staff trainers are all certified through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
