The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences furthers the mission of the PCOM School of Pharmacy by educating and training caring, competent and proactive generalist pharmacists who contribute to the health and well-being of the community and support the needs of underserved populations in Georgia, the Southeast region and society at-large.

The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences strives for academic excellence by advancing and dissipating biomedical and pharmaceutical sciences knowledge to students, faculty, college and community through teaching, scholarship and service.

Teaching Goals
  • Develop an environment for active learners among professional Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) students through innovative teaching.
  • Develop and utilize various student learning methods and techniques to improve PharmD terminal outcomes/competencies.
  • Inclusion of “reading assignment assessment” or short answer type questions as part of each course assessment.
  • Advancing collaborative teaching with basic science programs from other institutions.
  • Develop an “electives with distinction” for PharmD students.
Scholarship Goals
  • Maximize grantsmanship and scholarship.
  • Develop individualized, goal-oriented, scholarship development plans for each faculty.
  • Promote inter-campus collaboration.
  • Collaborate with the Division of Basic Sciences and other PCOM programs for new/novel research projects/proposals.
  • Promote department reputation and recognition by developing inter-institutional collaboration.
  • Partner with local research organizations and universities.
  • Partner with global (international) institutes and organizations.
  • Expand research program and support.
  • Assess feasibility and develop framework for graduate program in pharmaceutical sciences.
Service Goals
  • Promote outreach and engagement.
  • Participate in community work including state science and math fairs.
  • Organize student career fairs.
  • Provide leadership opportunities.
  • Engage faculty in sharing departmental responsibilities.
  • Expand student enrollment.
  • Promote faculty participation in the student recruitment efforts of the PCOM School of Pharmacy.
