PCOM students enjoy access to the on-campus Activities Center, a facility that offers opportunities for both individual and group fitness and recreation. The Center is an integral component of student life on-campus, and it serves as a hub for the PCOM community.
Student athletic clubs use the Activities Center for campus-wide events, and fitness classes are held weekly to benefit the PCOM community.
The best way to experience the new facility is to stop by and take a tour!
About the Activities Center
The Activities Center is located on-campus next to Rowland Hall. It affords a host of fitness opportunities, recreational programs and athletic competitions to assist in personal, physical, and psychological well-being. The athletic, fitness, and recreational events that take place assist in the enrichment of student life and employee morale at PCOM.
Within the Center there is a weight room with free weights, strength-plate loaded machines, cardiovascular equipment and a variety of other strength and conditioning apparatus. There is a fitness studio, racquetball courts and an NBA regulation-size basketball court. There is also a media-conference room, study lounge, and a game room with table tennis, billiards, and foosball. The Activities Center serves the PCOM community as a athletic, fitness, and recreational resource.
In addition to these facilities, the Center coordinates athletic events. Organized sports teams are open to all students and staff: PCOM's athletic clubs compete in rugby, soccer, volleyball, and golf. Intramural sports include basketball, table tennis, flag football, floor hockey, volleyball, racquetball, and dodge ball. Also, the Alumni Field that is located across Monument Road from the campus is a valuable recreational resource, serving the needs of rugby, soccer, and softball players. A jogging track surrounds the field for the enjoyment of runners.

About Student Athletics at PCOM
Participation in sports provides a popular recreational outlet at PCOM, even for students with a schedule filled with academic commitments. PCOM is the only medical school in Philadelphia with its own playing field on campus and an Activities Center with a regulation NBA-level basketball court. The college fields athletic activities for both men and women, in rugby, soccer, volleyball, softball, golf, and basketball.
Below is a listing of the active organized PCOM sports clubs that use the Activities Center facilities. In addition to these sports, clubs such as the Runner's Club and the Golf Club provide recreational outlets for PCOM students in local venues. Keep an eye out for website postings and general notices on the numerous fitness and recreational events that take place on a daily basis.
Times for free play for all students are available daily except when major events are scheduled. In addition to free play we offer an intramural league that begins in the winter where students compete in a 10 game season for bragging rights over the kings and queens of the Alumni Gym.
Organized in 1974, the club represents the College in the U.S. Rugby East, Graduate School Division of the Eastern Pennsylvania Rugby Union. Division, college, club and touring side matches are played two seasons per academic year (fall and spring). Eligibility is open to all PCOM students, faculty, staff and administration.
This sport is spontaneously organized each fall. In addition, the annual 1st year vs. 2nd year game is always a BIG HIT, as is the women's Powder Puff football contest in the spring.
Every year PCOM soccer always has fresh and new talented players. Practices usually take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays with games scheduled on Sunday. The PCOM Soccer Club competes in the Philadelphia Professional School Soccer League. Inter-varsity games are played during the fall and winter semester. Eligibility is open to all PCOM students, faculty, staff, and administration.
Volleyball is an increasingly popular sport at PCOM. The fall and spring leagues are comprised of co-ed teams from the first through fourth-year classes, as well as interns and residents. Recreational volleyball events are held weekly in the Activities Center Alumni Gym.
The Deck Hockey team competes in Philadelphia area independent leagues. Intramural Deck Hockey is played on the roof of the Activities Center. The league starts in the spring and a champion is crowned before the end of the semester finals.
