PCOM Responds to Katrina Devastation

Once again, I am truly heartened by the kindness and generosity of the PCOM community. When disaster strikes, the PCOM community quickly comes together to help those in need. Recently, the Student Government Association, led by President Salle Eckler, conducted its second Sacrifice 2 Save campaign, this time in response to the devastation caused in the gulf coast by Hurricane Katrina. By virtue of the collective generosity of both the Philadelphia and Georgia campuses and that of an anonymous donor, a check of at least $18,500 will be transmitted to the Red Cross as part of the Hurricane Katrina relief effort.

The devastation left in the wake of Hurricane Katrina is harrowing. Yet, in the midst of this tragedy, I am encouraged by the determination of our College community to bring appropriate relief and support to those victims who are displaced, injured and economically disadvantaged. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of the suffering, lending hope and healing

In moments such as these we must do more than offer sympathy. We must act in the spirit of our Mission to advance the well-being of the community through leadership and service. I am proud and honored to be part of this caring community.
