The GA-PCOM the Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences provide an opportunity for
students with baccalaureate degrees to begin their graduate study in the biomedical
sciences as additional preparation for professional study or to achieve an advanced
biomedical knowledge base for science careers and/or teaching. The program represents
a broad content base in the basic biomedical sciences with a strong emphasis on human
medicine and clinical applications of the material.
The first year of the program emphasizes biomedical concepts. It is designed for college
graduates who are preparing for admission to health profession programs and/or who
wish to extend their knowledge of the biomedical sciences in a medical school environment.
All courses are similar in content to basic science courses in medical education.
All first-year coursework is at the graduate level and all first-year instruction
is provided the faculty of Georgia Campus - Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine
At the conclusion of the foundation year, students are awarded a certificate of advanced
graduate study and may progress to degree candidacy in one of four concentration tracks
conducted either at the Georgia campus or Philadelphia campus.
Students are able to access the course offerings and research resources of both the
Georgia and Philadelphia campuses in the degree candidacy (concentration track) year.
The concentration tracks build upon the foundation and culminate in (a) advanced studies
in biomedical topics (Georgia Campus' non-thesis MS track); (b) original, closely-mentored
biomedical research (Philadelphia Campus' biomedical research MS track); (c) the study
of organizational leadership in the biosciences (Philadelphia Campus' MS-OL track);
or (d) the study of forensic biology (Philadelphia Campus' MS-forensic biology track).
