Private Sources of Financial Aid Funding:

Detailed information on private sources of financial assistance is available at the following:
  • "A Guide to Financing Your Education", a handbook that is updated yearly by the staff of the PCOM Financial Aid Office, provides numerous sources of private scholarships, grants and loans for all students. Copies are available at the Financial Aid Office.
  • A free scholarship search for all students is available at www.fastweb.com.
  • The Web site www.free-4u.com contains comprehensive listings of scholarship and grant programs for all career choices.
  • All medical students are encouraged to check the Financial Aid Section of the Web site of the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine at www.aacom.org which describes over 150 sources of private grants and scholarships for osteopathic medical students.

When federal and private funding is not sufficient to meet your educational expenses, you may want to look into private educational loans to help you fill the gap. Its important to shop for the lowest cost loan.  Compare private loan programs by looking at their interest rates, fees, and borrower benefits. Remember that a credit check is required before approval.

At the Financial Aid Office, students may obtain a brochure that compares the terms and conditions of  private lenders most frequently used by PCOM students, as well as information on the new Graduate PLUS Loan program which became available on July 1, 2006.  Unlike private educational loans, the Graduate PLUS loan offers a fixed rate of interest and can be consolidated with your other federal loans.
