Federal Work Study

 Federal Work Study

The Federal Work Study (FWS) program provides jobs for graduate and medical students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay for educational expenses. FWS is administered by the by the PCOM Office of Student Affairs.

FWS applicants must demonstrate financial need by completing the FAFSA and other financial aid requirements. Applicants must also complete the I-9 form at the time of hiring.
Applications are available year round from PCOM's Office of Student Affairs. Once your FWS application has been completed and your FWS job has been assigned to you, you must sign a FWS Award Letter acknowledging the award. All applications, job assignments, timekeeping, and payroll are conducted through the Office of Student Affairs, not the job's supervisor or the Financial Aid Office.
Types of Jobs
Jobs range from typical library and office work, to assisting in labs and participating in research. A few students may be placed in doctor's offices and patient billing services.
Awards, Wages, and Pay
The total FWS award depends on when you apply, your level of need, the amount of other aid you receive, the availability of funds, and the time requirements of the job. The amount of your FWS award is calculated as part of your overall financial aid award and therefore may reduce your need for other funds.

The number of hours you can work are dependent upon your financial aid eligibility and the requirements of the job for which you apply.

FWS wages range from $10.00 to $17.00 per hour. A PCOM check is made payable to you on a bi-weekly basis.
