Farzaneh Daghigh is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry/Molecular Biology and a Course Co-director of CMBM (Cellular and Molecular Basis of Medicine) which is offered to the first year medical students in the second trimester.
Her research focuses on inflammatory diseases such as periodontitis. (Read the article in the Digest about the Department's ongoing research into inflammation). She has studied the effects of nitric oxide in human gingival fibroblasts. Dr. Daghigh has recently authored a chapter on Reactive Oxidant Species and Emerging Therapies in Clinical Medicine in a book entitled, "Oxidative Stress: Clinical and Biomedical Implications" Nova Publishers, 2007.
Dr. Daghigh is an advisor for the Nutrition Club of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. This student organization will serve as an educational resource on nutrition and nutrition topics to students of the College and the community at large. Dr. Daghigh is a member of the PCOM Chapter of Sigma Xi, the American Chemical Society, the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. She received her PhD degree from the Department of Biochemistry at Temple University School of Medicine in 1996. She completed her postdoctoral research as a fellow at Dupont-Merck Pharmaceuticals.
