Dr. Cavenagh is a 1976 graduate of the Yale University Physician Associate Program. In 1977, he graduated from the inaugural class of the Norwalk Hospital/Yale University physician assistant surgical residency. He holds the degree of Master of Business Administration from Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia. He has also earned the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership/Systems with a concentration in Health Care Studies from Union Institute & University in Cincinnati, Ohio. He has nearly 35 years of health-related experience. He has held various positions as a physician assistant clinician, health care executive and medical educator. He has previous faculty experience in the emergency medical training programs at George Washington University and Community College of Beaver County Pennsylvania. Since 1998, he has been an active teacher in both the pre-professional and professional phases of the PCOM physician assistant program. He currently serves as Associate Professor and Chairman of the Department of Physician Assistant Studies here at PCOM. He is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, the Society of Physician Assistants in Emergency Medicine, the National Association of Emergency Medical Services Physicians and the Pennsylvania Society of Physician Assistants. He is a nationally board certified Physician Assistant and is currently licensed to practice as an osteopathic Physician Assistant in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
