Dr. Mauer is Professor, Chair, and Director of the Residency Program in the Otorhinolaryngology Department. He specializes in oro-facial plastic surgery and is a staff physician and consultant to St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware, the Metropolitan Hospital, and the Springfield Division of Delaware County Memorial Hospital. Dr. Mauer is a past president of the Osteopathic Colleges of Ophthalmology & Otorhinolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery (1990-1991) and the Philadelphia Laryngological Society (1991-1992).

Dr. Mauer is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, the Philadelphia Society of Facial Plastic Surgery, and the Philadelphia Laryngological Society. He has been honored with the Institute of Laser Surgery Award, the Iota and Tau Sigma Clinical Professor of the Year Award, and the Award for Service as Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Professional Staff for a decade of service in this role at PCOM (1980 to 1990). Dr. Mauer received his D.O. from PCOM in 1962.
