Objective & Description
Medicine is a continually evolving science. New research and clinical experiences broaden our knowledge and frequently require changes in treatment and drug therapies. In order to keep pace with these changes, the contemporary primary care physician will need to develop a variety of new skills. This program will focus on discussing these key skills that will enable the primary care physician to continue to provide high quality care that results in better patient outcomes.

Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the basic requirements necessary for a workable electronic health record (EHR).
  • Select several vendors suitable for a practice's specific needs.
  • Describe how to utilize evidence-based medicine, outcomes research, and the AOA Clinical Assessment Program (CAP) in daily practice.
  • Understand the future of medical care and the proposed new reimbursement models.
  • Define the steps necessary to move one's practice toward qualifying for those models.
  • Discuss the insurance industry plan for improving patient adherence and the responsibility that both physicians and patients must have in the management of chronic diseases.
