Nicholas C. Pedano, DO '61, FACOS
Alumni Association Certificate of Honor 2010 Recipient

Dr. Pedano practices general surgery and surgical endoscopy in Philadelphia and Montgomery counties. He is an avid lecturer and presenter and an expert witness for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of State.

Prior to his present practice, he was an attending surgeon at the Hospital of Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Springfield Hospital and Parkview Hospital. He was a consultant in general surgery at Suburban General Hospital and a general surgical consultant to the National Board of Osteopathic Examiners.

Among Dr. Pedano's faculty appointments have been professor and clinical professor, surgery, and director of general surgery residents' training program, PCOM, and adjunct clinical professor, surgery, New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. In 2001, PCOM named him professor emeritus.

In tribute to a lifetime of service on behalf of the osteopathic profession, Dr. Pedano received the O. J. Snyder Memorial Medal, PCOM's highest honor, in 1999; in 2001, he received a certificate of merit from the Alumni Association of PCOM. He has been recognized with other prestigious awards including the Lambda Omicron Gamma of outstanding achievement in the field of education and clinical medicine (1975), the Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Foundation Award for Distinguished Teaching (1993), the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association Distinguished Service Award (1995), and the POMA Board of Trustees Member Award for 40 years of service (2002).

Dr. Pedano has held leadership roles in professional organizations including the American Osteopathic Association (member of the house of delegates) and the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical (vice chairman - district X, president-elect, president, member of the house of delegates, and member of the board of trustees). He has served/serves on the boards and committees of many professional and civic organizations including the Merion Civic Association, Cardinal Krol's Committee for Children's Welfare, the Philadelphia Opera Guild, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Zoological Society and the Merion Boy Scouts of America, Pack #71. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association of PCOM since 1988; in 2007 he was president. He was a member of the PCOM Board of Trustees from 1984 to 2009.  In 1994 Dr. Pedano served as chair of the the College's Capital Campaign, The PCOM Mission.

Board certified in general surgery by the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery, Dr. Pedano is a fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons.

He holds a doctor of osteopathic degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and a bachelor of science degree from Villanova University. He completed his internship and residency at the Hospital of Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
